After three days of work and research, the information and registration site for Protospiel South is live!
In the spirit of Protospiel, Protospiel South is a gathering for amateur and established game designers to test and promote nearly-finished game prototypes. The atmosphere is casual, yet everyone is serious about their goals and dreams of publishing games.

Friday, May 28: Noon to 10 PM
Saturday, May 29: 8 AM to 10 PM
Sunday: May 30: 8 AM to 4 PM

Here’s a lifehack I picked up from this month’s Wired magazine: Use Flickr as a Home Asset Database.
A home asset system is a repository to store useful details about your stuff of value, for the sake of insurance and waranty claims. To use Flickr, or a similar photo-storage service:
Since I had been trying to create an asset db, realizing that the ever-charming folks at Flickr had already done the heavy lifting was a weight off my shoulders.

Liberty Dollars are an independent silver-backed currency. The creator asserts that backing a currency with a precious metal (like silver or gold) protects it from inflation. Anyone know if this is this true?
Harold Pinter’s Nobel Lecture is a great work. It says hard truths that need to be heard by more Americans.
(Yeah, I’m about 2 to 3 years behind the curve on this one. With the way that culture is accelerating however, I’m practically retro on this one.)

The Message: A passable interpretation of their lyrics

Sharon and I went to see Good Night And Good Luck at the South Lamar Alamo on Saturday the 19th. The movie has a message that needs to be heard right now. The last paragraph of the movie review at RollingStone.com says it best:
“For a paltry $8 million, Clooney has crafted a period piece that speaks potently to a here-and-now when constitutional rights are being threatened in the name of the Patriot Act, and the American media trade in truth for access. ‘We will not be driven by fear into an age of unreason,’ said Murrow. Amen to that, brother. Good night, and good luck.”
Speaking of the (amazingly misnamed) PATRIOT Act (Google search | Wikipedia)... It’s supposed to expire at the end of 2005. Can I have my constitutional rights back now, please? Well, There are some who feel that it’s important to keep it around for fear of something worse getting passed later (What an awful basis to stand on. Doesn’t passing one law set precedence for similar ones to follow?). According to NPR’s PATRIOT Act website House and Senate negotiators have struck a tentative agreement to extend the Patriot Act.
Egads.
The folks over at Penny Arcade have launched their Child’s Play 2005 website. This is their third year doing Child’s Play, and (working with Amazon.com to create wishlists for selected hospitals) they’ve taken to an international level. Currently, you can donate to hospitals in the USA and Canada, with the UK coming soon. The letters are very touching.
Now here’s a movement I can get behind. Defective Yeti gives us WriAShorStoWe, in which you write a short story during the week of November 3rd. Comment here with a link to your story if you give it a whirl.

I’ve lost weight lately, so I have a number of pairs of jeans that are much too big. Denim is so robust, durable, and comfy, that I’m always on the lookout for other uses and new incarnations of these pants.
I recently signed up for a drawing class at the Austin Museum of Art, so I was coveting expensive satchels to put all my pencils and my decadent sketchbook moleskine in.
Denim makes good bags…
