Seeking spoiler text for On The Edge "secret" cards. · 19 February 08

I’ve done the best searching I know how to do, and now I’m turning to you for help.

Many moons ago, I owned a game store. We carried the Over The Edge RPG in the store. Over The Edge is a game of conspiracies within conspiracies, all struggling for supremacy on a little island. It’s surreal and has a wicked sense of humor. We also carried its companion CCG, On The Edge. On The Edge was very true to the game and pretty fun to play. One of the coolest things about it were certain rare cards called Secrets. Aside from having cool in-game abilities, they also had great flavor text. The flavor text for the secrets revealed really nifty stuff about the true nature of that faction’s presence on the island.

Here’s where you come in. If you know the text for one or more On The Edge secrets, please leave a comment with the name of the secret and its flavor text. Thank you!

  1. I have a few secrets:

    #3
    Glorious Lords’ Secret
Lucifer’s Glorious Lords of Passion use the poison of seklut centipedes to mutate recruits. If the mutation is beneficial, the recruit is called “Blessed.” If the mutation is harmful, the victim is called “Cursed” and becomes a servant to the Blessed. The Glorious Lords have no real connection to black magic.

    #5
    Hermetics’ Secret
The Hermetics use magic and astral science to further their goal of world domination. The y have successfully discredited most public accounts of paranormal phenomena so that modern people take pride in not believing magic, the very power that the Hermetics are using to control mundanes.

    #6
    Kergillian’s Secret
Kergillians are crustacean-like creatures from a distant star. They implant their own brains into those of humans and other life forms. While voluntary hosts are promised heightened senses and expanded consciousness, the implant soon takes over the host’s brain. A host for a Kergillian often has strange urges and cravings. The Kergillians’ understanding of the human neuro-system has allowed them to invent several types of stun weapons.

    #7
    Pharoahs’ Secret
The Pharoahs are an ancient, artificial immortal race designed to control humans, who instinctively obey their commands. Quislings are non-Pharoahs who work for the Pharoahs, hoing to earn the rank of exalted servant when the Pharoahs enslave all humanity. Pharoahs are all ancient, and they cannot fathom modern thought or art.

    #8
    Tridents’ Secret
Tridents are an international, altruistic conspiracy, using the ancient tactics of Control Addicts to champion justice and freedom. They name themselves “Trident” because their organization has four parts: three operative branches (the prongs) and one administrative branch (the shaft). They have facilitated the spread of communication technologies, such as television and the Internet, to make it harder for governments and their conspiratorial masters to control citizens’ access to information.

    #10
    The Dirt on Dr. Nusbaum
For some unknown reason, there are two Dr. Nusbaums, which partially accounts for his remarkable productivity. Even Dr. Nusbaum is unaware that he is twinned.

    #C4
    The Truth About Control Addiction
Despite the amusing rhetoric of the Cut-Ups, the forces of Control do not make a coherent, self-directed conspiracy like those of the Pharoahs, Kergillians, and so on. Control Addiction is a psychological condition, a crippling spiritual malady that strikes sentient beings throughout the universe. Both those who wish to dominate others and those who need to be dominated are affected.

    #D4
    The Net’s Secret
The net, or Network, is an international business organization whose members have found it profitable to create laws and then circumvent them. Protective tariffs, drug laws, high taxes on high-demand items, and other such measures are their standard profit-making tools. The 18th amendment to the U.S. Constitution (Prohibition) was their finest achievement.

  2. Ooh! Thank you, Kris.

  3. I think I have them all here in my collection.

#1 The Dirt on Her Exaltedness, Monique D’Aubainne, Historic Liberator and Current Shepardess of Al Amarja

(this was always my favorite CCG card name EVER!)

D’Aubainne didn’t liberate the island from Italian Fascists, she bought it from her friend, Mussolini. Since then, she’s turned it into a source of servants, information, and amusement. She deals secretly with Pharaohs, from whom she’s learned the secret of longevity, and with the mysterious Vornites, whose mind control techniques keep her firmly in power.

  4. Thank you, Jeff. That’s one of the ones I was particularly craving. I also have a hankering for the one on crime and law enforcement.

It was a nifty CCG. My all-time favorite was NetRunner.
